2023 Event Archive
Sleap, Shropshire
9th September 2023
19 vintage Pipers arrived at the VPAC’s Home Base along with the many locally-based members and others who came by road. For once the weather was quite reasonable, although by late afternoon the TCu’s were building and shortly afterward the heavens opened!
Shobdon, Herefordshire
12th August 2023
In the days leading up to this event both the Met Office and the BBC were promising reasonable weather. Until, that is, 36hr beforehand when they suddenly changed their minds…. it was too late to cancel the event so we put up the yellow gazebo not as shelter from the sun, but from the wind and rain! Two flying visitors braved the weather to add to Richard’s Colt on the soggy grass. The photo below says it all….
Cromer / Northrepps
15th July 2023
This event was cancelled due to inclement weather
Wickenby, Lincs.
17th June 2023
Wickenby, the former base for Lancasters of 12 and 626 sqns in WW2 was chosen for our Northern meet. 27 aircraft called in (with a few of their crews nightstopping locally) and 3 members came by road. Prominent were Willem Rongé and his father Bob who flew over from Antwerp in their german-registered Super Cub, and Russell Myles who came down from Perth. Russell flew a total 8hr 30min for 3 hours at Wickenby, a VPAC hat and a Wickenby mug! Fair weather and the excellent Café 12 made for a great day.
Popham, Hampshire
27th May 2023
Under cloudless early summer skies, albeit with a keen nor’easterly breeze, 41 vintage Pipers and other classics came to enjoy the hospitality at this most delightful airfield to participate in our Southern meet. 10 members visited by road and a total of 60 VPAC-ers were present. Thanks go to Mike Pearson, airfield manager, and the marshalling team who did a great job of arranging the aircraft close to the clubhouse and café.
Halfpenny Green “Black Country Bash”
22nd April 2023
Despite the forecast leading up to the weekend being pretty unsettled, once the mist and low cloud cleared it turned out a reasonable day for flying. The first arrival was Javed Rahman from Thruxton and over the course of the next few hours 22 vintage aircraft, plus a handful of members by road, arrived at the former RAF Bobbington to guarantee a successful start to the 2023 season. The tower café was kept busy all day and a superb job was done by the AFISOs in coping with all our arrivals/departures as well as local traffic and other visitors.
VPAC HQ with numerous vintage Pipers and a visiting Beagle Pup from the BPBC.
We were glad of the walls on the gazebo to keep the keen breeze away!
