    PA-22 Tri-Pacer

    G-BMCS PA-22 Tri-Pacer

The PA-22 Tri-Pacer is a 4 place high wing aircraft with fabric covered wings and fuselage. It is basically a PA-20 Pacer but fitted with a nose wheel instead of a tail wheel.

125 hp, 135 hp, 150 hp, 160 hp Lycoming engine.

7,641 built at Lock Haven between 1950 and 1963.

An unusual feature of the Tri-Pacer is the incorporation of bungee linked ailerons and rudder. Beside simplifying the coordination of in-flight manoeuvres, this system which can easily be overcome by the pilot as required, allowed the installation of a simplified form of autopilot marketed by Piper under the name Auto-control.

Sometimes called the “Flying Milk Stool” due to the arrangement of the landing gear.
